On holiday with her parents in Paris, Sonia meets Philippe, whose parents own the hotel where she’s staying. One night, they go to a fancy-dress party to celebrate the 14th of July, the French national holiday. They go to see the firework display, and begin a fantastic adventure that takes them more than two centuries back in time.
