Cross-curricular focus:

 Political Ideology

This famous novel had an enormous impact on the anti-slavery movement when it was first published in 1852. Plantation owner Arthur Shelby is in debt and must sell two of his slaves. One of them is Harry, the little son of Eliza, and the other is kind-hearted Uncle Tom. Eliza overhears the plan and decides to run north with her boy, hoping to reach safety, while Tom stoically accepts his fate. Will Eliza and Harry escape, or will they be caught? And what about Tom? Will he be sold to a cruel master or will he ever be given his freedom?
